Mark Hitchcock

Chief Operating Officer

Mark Hitchcock is our Chief Operating Officer. He founded the business 4 years ago with the aim of providing superior and secure ICT solutions alongside an elevated customer experience to customers Australia wide.

Self-motivated and forward-thinking, Mark aspires to become a thought leader in the ICT industry and is passionate about ensuing customers meet their strategic vision and goals. A vision that he also applies to his employees. Over the past 15 years Mark has gained experience working in many sectors such as Local/State/Federal Government, Healthcare, Not for Profit, Manufacturing, Maintenance and Aerospace. He maintains a well-rounded knowledge, holding numerous certifications from Microsoft, VMware, Citrix and Fortinet covering a broad range of solutions.

Mark is extremely interested in ICT Security. He is trained in multiple SIEM products, has experience with basically every modern AV product and takes a security-first approach to systems engineering. He also has experience with Sophos and FortiGate Unified Threat Management Gateways.

In his spare time Mark likes to search for cutting edge technologies to improve the VITCS ICT Security armoury and listen to podcasts to keep up to date with the latest trends.

Neil Thomas

Service Delivery & Vendor Manager

Neil holds the role of Service Delivery & Vendor Manager. He is an experienced ICT professional bringing to the team over 30 years of technical and sales experience. Over his long career in ICT, he has gained knowledge and experience in a diverse range of areas such as Service Delivery, Enterprise Solutions, Professional Services and ICT Security. Previously, Neil has worked as an ICT Technical Manager, Digital Security Manager, Business Development Manager and Account Manager.

Neil is passionate about ICT Security and keeps up to date with all current movements and innovations in the industry. He cares about ensuring our customers are provided with solutions that are effective, simple to use/understand and don’t break the bank. Neil’s role includes ensuring that Virtual IT are delivering the best level of service to our customers. Additionally, he holds a Diploma in Management.

Outside of work, Neil likes to listen and play music, get out in the garden and try to keep up with the grandchildren.

Neal Costello

Business Development Manager

Neal is our Business Development Manager. Coming from a long history in both Government and Sales verticals, he has experience in a multitude of roles including Project Manager, Systems Administration, Information Security Officer and Enterprise Sales. He most recently worked for the Tasmanian Department of Police, Fire & Emergency Management as a Project Co-ordinator dealing with integrations for the new Tasmanian Government Radio Network.

Outside of work, Neal has served as Vice Chair for the Hobart Branch of the Australian Information Security Association and was a board member of Startup Tasmania.

Neal has a strong background in Information Security and is well versed in the unique requirements for security demanded by state government agencies. He is currently completing a Graduate Certificate of Cyber Security Management through the University of Technology, Sydney.

In his spare time, Neal is an avid Apiarist and enjoys touring the state on his motorbike.

Murray Lawler

Principal Cybersecurity Strategist

Murray is a solution-focused Information Security leader with over twenty-five years of experience in Information Technology, Cyber Security, Information Security, Risk Management, and IT Infrastructure Management. Thirteen of these years include experience in senior Cyber Operations and Cyber Consultancy roles. Recognized for excellence in leadership, strategic planning, security policy development, training, stakeholder management and risk management, capable of providing maximum assurance to client and business information.  

Murray offers a proven record for building secure and straightforward Cyber Security solutions, guaranteed to enhance the operational efficiency of Cyber Operations by 50 per cent, specializing in Government, Police and Emergency Management, Health, and Education sectors. He is a collaborative, high performing professional ready for a new opportunity to utilize cyber expertise and leadership capabilities. 

Murray is one of Australia’s leading experts in Information Security Management Frameworks, such as ISO/IEC 27001, Australian Government ISM & Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF) and NIST et al. 

Donald Schofield

ICT Security Specialist

Donald is one of our ICT Security Specialists. He started with VIT Cyber Security in March 2017 and has over 20 years of experience in IT industry working in Government, Banking, Finance, Law, Manufacturing, Media, Not for Profit and Utility Sectors. Donald began his career using Novell Netware, one of the few US National Computer Security Centre certified network solution in the late 90’s. Later he obtained his Master Novell Engineer certification.

Don is a strong advocate for a layered approach to security defences and uses his extensive architecting and integration experience to enable customers to prioritise and focus on cybersecurity using a risk-based approach. Don’s experience also extends to major incident management, government and corporate internal investigations and open source intelligence.

Donald holds a Master of Information Systems Security with Distinction with CSU, is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and has completed in excess of 40 certifications including 3 master level certifications from major ICT vendors.

Joshua Quinn

Cyber Security Specialist

Joshua is a Cyber Security Specialist. He earned his Masters of Cyber Security from Charles Sturt University in 2020. Joshua has many years of experience working with Windows Servers and Desktops. Additionally, he has a solid knowledge of securely administering MacOS, iPad OS and iOS utilising a variety of Mobile Device Management products.

Joshua is a specialist in Linux and Fortinet, holding the RHCSA, RHCE, Red Hat Certified Specialist in Security: Linux and NSE 4 Network Security Professional certifications. Joshua prides himself on delivering well executed and highly secure systems that enable businesses to work more efficiently. Within Cyber Security, he has strong interests in the areas of Cyber Terrorism, Digital Forensics and Incident Response.

In his spare time, Joshua is involved in multiple open source projects and is constantly researching new security trends, tools and vulnerabilities.

Isaac Price

Systems Engineer - Cybersecurity

Isaac is the newest technical member of the VITCS team. Joining us as a Systems Engineer – Cybersecurity, Isaac brings to the team experience in administering SharePoint, Office 365 and Azure cloud environments. With a keen interest in automation, Isaac aims to empower better business outcomes through the development of complex automated workflows that save our clients time. Isaac is also experienced with the suite of Datto backup and continuity products and is able to protect businesses against data loss that can be incurred from cyber-attacks.

Recently, Isaac accheived his Red Hat Certified Engineer certification.

In 2016, Isaac earned his Bachelor of Information and Communication Technology from the University of Tasmania, where he majored in Software Design and Development. While at the University of Tasmania, he served as the Treasurer and Systems Administrator for the Technology and Computing Society.

Outside of work, Isaac enjoys cruising the state on his motorbike, which he generally does while listening to the latest ICT Security podcast instalments from Risky Business and Darknet Diaries
